So today is the last day of #BlogLikeCrazy and this means this blog post is about lessons learned while participating in the event.

What I Learned During #BlogLikeCrazy

This is probably my third year doing #BlogLikeCrazy and I believe it is my first year to actually fully completing and partaking in the annual blogging challenge.

There have been other monthly blog challenges over the years and I have never completed any of them. I would start them with great enthusiasm and then something would happen and I would have to forfeit or quit or real life got in the way or I just lost interest.

For some reason, this year was a breeze. Maybe it is because I am finally settled into this blog and its topics, niche. I don’t know but whatever the reason I am glad.

Here are some lessons I learned while participating in #BlogLikeCrazy

  • Planning ahead is essential. I learned that I had to not only be prepared with topics ahead of time but also carve out time to get them written, photos added, edit the thing over and over again and then have them scheduled to post throughout the week. Fortunately, I had two days off a week where I could get this accomplished.
  • That I CAN complete a project if I really want to and put in the effort.
  • Follow-through feels good.
  • I learned how to use the creative process of taking a certain topic and making it my own, putting my own spin on it with my blog categories.
  • If I don’t write stuff down in my notebook, I will forget everything.
  • In writing stuff down on paper, it leaves room for more stuff (ideas) to bubble up in my head.
  • Find inspiration in the ordinary.
  • I don’t have to create lofty ideas, stories are right there in front of me from which I can extract my own point of view.
  • Looking back on this project, I realize that I do perhaps work better on my own. I don’t need to have a group or be a part of a group. I am perfectly capable of doing this all on my own. I do know what I am doing and do not need validation.  Don’t get me wrong, I believe in community and all but I was relying too heavily on it. Now, I can look at what I can contribute instead of taking. I’ve known this all along about myself but somehow, somewhere along the way I allowed myself to get lost in the crowd. I left a few groups because of this realization and feel better for it. Now I feel like I can actually focus and get some work done.
  • That I still want to put on a local blogging conference here in north Alabama.
  • I am easily distracted but have taken measures to prevent this in the future.
  • Self-discipline, if you don’t do it someone else will.

That’s it for now. And that’s a lot.

Thanks for reading and show me Your Moxie!
